Straight
shots are not for the faint hearted
Ever try attempting draw shots, follow
shots, curve and more trick shots?
Try this. Now, place an object ball in the middle of the billiards table and the cue ball at one end of the billiards table just 4 inches
from the bottom pocket (either side will do). Now strike the ball and
pocket it! What, that's it?! You call that something more of any trick
shots you ever know?! That's right, this is the foundation and porbably
the most important drill you will ever need. If you can't even pocket
a ball at this distance and set up, what are you talking about draw
shots and some other fancy shots. Ever watch those Chinese Kung Fu
movies where you see an aprentice squating for almost 4 hours everyday
to build up their stance, that's to build up a strong foundation, and
that's something for you to apply in your game of billiards if you ever want to take it seriously.
Most
regular players will miss the shots described above for almost more than
half the time, even for a seasoned player will still miss the shots half the time. For the professional level, they will keep on
practising this shot over and over again before any tournament.
So
how do we improve the infamous straight shot? Frankly, I don't know,
probably is a feel between your arms and the billiard
cue stick . For what I know, straight shots
are known to be amateaurish to many, that is the reason why for
anyone who attempts the shot are pressured by themselves thinking
that: If I can't pocket this shot, I am worst than an amateur. Whereas
for me, I treat any shot the same, and this has helped to build
up my confidence.
If for any moment you think that you will miss the shot, you will
miss it. Billiards is a game about confidence, when you approach
a shot, do it with confidence and you will eventually get it right.
All sports and whatever things you want to accomplish in life needs
confidence, without it you may be a loser, sorry to those who can't
take my language but no hard feelings, this is what it is. |
